Homemade Laundry Soap, easy and affordalbe.

I have made homemade laundry soap once or twice before when I cloth diapered, but with going back to work and moving, I just became lazy and stopped. 
Well, I'm back to trying to cut back on cost of stuff, and Laundry soap is crazy expensive.  For approximately $11 I made a 5 gallon bucket of laundry soap and according to the Duggars it can make about 180 loads of laundry.    That makes it about 6 cents a load for the soap. 

SO without further ado, here is the Duggar recipe that I used, and my pictures.  Enjoy.

First, you will want A pot to melt the bar soap in, a grater, Borax, Washing Baking Soda, and Fels-Naptha bar soap.  And of course a 5 gallon bucket.  They sell them at walmart and most hardware stores.

 Next you want to grate your bar of soap into a sauce pan.

 Then add 4 cups of hot water to it.  It smells so good.

 Next turn the burner on and stir until melted.  It doesn't take to long.

 Fill your bucket up 1/2 way with hot water.

 Then Add your melted soap to the bucket.

 Add 1 cup of Arm and Hammer Super Washing Soda.

 Also add 1/2 cup of Borax

 Stir until the powder dissolves

 Fill your bucket up the rest of the way with hot water, stir it and you are done. 
Let it sit over night, to set and then use.

 To make my laundry smell yummy I put 15 drops of lavender oil and 15 drops of Tea Tree Oil in the bucket.

To make life easier, get an empty container that you can put your soap in that is smaller.  For example an old liquid laundry soap jug, or anything works.  Fill it 1/2 with water and 1/2 with the soap you made and shake before you use.


This recipe will make 10 gallons in all of laundry detergent and about 180 loads. 

My Greatest Savings EVER...

Before my kids game today I ran to safeway.  I wanted to get in on the Ken's salad dressing deal.  I was nervous that I wouldn't have a good option because sometimes they don't have ranch or the ones I like.  And I really didn't have the desire to price match at walmart today.

So, I bought 10 bottles of Ken's salad dressing.  They are on  sale until Monday for 99 cents each.  No coupon or limit for that bargain.    I previously printed 5 coupons(I can't find the 6th) from 3 different computers for this.    The coupon is $1 off the purchase of 2 Kens salad dressing. 
The cashier rang up the dressing.  Normal price was $4.69 each.   WIth ten bottles that comes to $46.90.  Entered my club card # and that brought it down to $9.90.  Already  a huge savings.  Then I gave her my coupons $5 in coupons.  Bringing it down to $4.90 a savings of 90%

I was so excited.  The cashier said good job, and I left, but I had to call everyone I knew first.  Ok not everyone, just if I knew your #.  Of course my mom and sister in law didn't answer, and Jeremy finally did.  I was thrilled.  I usually save here and there, but I don't think I have done 90% before so I was happy.  And now I have 16 bottles of salad dressing in my pantry so I am set for a while.  :)  

I say 49 cents a bottle is good, I might have to go down stairs later and get on Jeremy's computer for 2 more coupons.

Nalley Pickles as Low as 25 cents a jar @ walmart

A recent trip to walmart and I found Nalley baby dill pickles 24 oz. jars for $1.  This is an every day price.  The 4/1 red plum insert has a coupon for 75 cents off any 16 oz + jar of Nalley pickles.  This would make them 25 cents a jar.
But wait it gets better www.smartsource.com has a coupon for 75 cents off any 16oz + jar of coupons.  If you have more than one computer you could get more than 2 coupons.

I have 3 computers I printed off of making me have 6 coupons that are printed and I have 3 inserts, so I am going to get 9 jars of pickles for $2.25  that is a savings of 75% 

Ken's Salad Dressing 49 cents each. SAFEWAY

There is a coupon in this weeks safeway ad for Kens salad dressing.  It says 99 cents each.  If you go here www.smartsource.com there is a coupon for $1 off the purchase of 2 Kens salad dressings.  So that would make them 49 cents each this weekend at safeway.
